Hi, Just remembering today. I also remember Foothill drug store. My father had an account there and I would go in and charge $.05 cokes! Sandy Ferard, Irene van Frankfoort, Pam Smith, Ricky Moran, Hugh Beyler, Diana Murray, Martha Clark, Nancy Tally. Where is Robin Rhode?? So many thoughts I can't get them all down. "Released time" at Slauson for Religious training. Band in 4th grade through high school. Choir at Slauson. Who was the director? Mr Tillinghast,(Dalton) was he good looking? German Dodge ball in 6th grade. Having to wear socks with your shoes. $.60 for lunch in the cafeteria. The "sex" education movie at Slauson. Making gym bags in Home Economics. Mrs. Story the school nurse?? Mr. Nolting the counselor? What a good time. Enough of this.... Claudia

I went to Slauson and graduated there in 1975. 8th Grade. I remember going to the A&W for lunch and going to a bakery not far from there. I don't remember the name of the bakery though. The teachers I remember are: Ms. Rasmussen English. Mrs. Waldron Math. Mr. Anderson Science. I can't remember my homeroom teacher's name or the P.E. teacher's name, but I remember what they looked like! I also remember Mr. Lopez and Mr. Couch, although I was not in their classes... and Mr. Hertz was a great principal! We paid for and put up the "Class of '75" sign out front. I remember painting all the trash cans in the school too! What fun that was! Some of the classmates I remember are Susie Grosser, Dianne Self, Stevie Travato(Spelling?) Boycette Vinson, Lori Mueller, Laurie St. George Joe Stockfish. Where is everyone?! Ms. Rasmussen was my favorite teacher. I often wonder whatever became of her. I moved to TN while a softmore at Gladstone, so I did not graduate with my class. I didn't like the fact that half of the students went on to Azusa High and half went on to Gladstone High.

Gosh, I have so many wonderful memories at Slauson, I dont even know where to start. Slauson was the most awesome school I ever attended. The only thing that sucked was that in high school half of the students go to Azusa and half go to Gladstone.I remember when Ms Welch was messing around with the janitor, Mr Graham. I remember Mr Reiner, who was the best teacher that I have ever had.Mr Maroste, Mr Garcia, Mrs. Chandler, Mr Marlen Mr Nolting, Mr Hertz and all of those teachers that we gave a hard time, but totally respect now that we are grown up. Remember that 6.1 earthquake we had October 1, 1987? I experienced that at Slauson.I remember my bestest friend in the world, Evelyn Huskins who I will never forget the memories and all of the fun we shared together. Evil, you will always be my best friend and I will never forget you or all of the fun that we had at Slauson. When I hear of former Slauson students passing away I remember them just as I did as when I was in junior high with them. My son who is a 7th grader at Slauson hears all of my stories and memories that i experienced at Slauson almost on a daily basis. Well I want to end this by saying SLAUSON CLASS OF 88 ROCKED!!!!!!!!!! I wish for peace and happiness to all of my former classmates and I love ya all. Gracie Herrera, Aka Boner, named by Evelyn.

Mrs. price was my home room teacher. I loved when she'd read to us. She read To Kill A Mokingbird, and A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. She read in character. I miss the innocence of that time and the way it felt resting my head on my desk and listening to her speak. She and Mrs. Smith loved what they were doing and it rubbed off on many of their students. Today, I read to my own children and students I teach. I always feel better after reading to people. But I doubt that I'll ever be able to duplicate what Mrs. Price was capable of. I hope she's still teaching. As for Mrs. Smith. She taught me about the constitutuion. At the end of the year we had to pass a 220 question exam to pass her class. She was a fantastic history teacher because she told stories as if they had just happened yesterday. She also turned me into a news junkie. She used to teach us how important the news was by having us play the EYE WITNESS NEWS GAME. OThers cheated but I felt a sense of pride when I knew an answer. Both she and Mrs. Price instilled confidence in me. My math skills are still lacking however, largly due to Mr. Western and Praise. I learned more in one month from Ed Coats, than I ever did from Western. I think he was too caught up in his own life and that affected our class. Plus he paid too much attention to a few individuals rather than the material being taught. Overall Slauson was a great experience and I still think about my school years fondly.

Well when the last day of school came around Perry was all excited because his mom was in town and she was going to pick him up. Well she did and needless to say she was the most beautiful women that a 7th grade boy had ever seen, but I had never heard of her back then. I recall fondly our principal of the time, Mr. Howard Hertz. Actually, he was Vice-P for a time with Mr Baum as Principal, then took the position himself. Kind man! How about Foothill Drug Store on Azusa Ave, just north of Foothill for those of us who traveled north to get home? The last real soda fountain for our area. Then there was MS.(before it was fashionable) Bartlett, girls PE teacher. PE was not fun!! Have three Slauson Annuals, dating 1964 to 1967, but no scanner.

Mr. Maroste was my homeroom teacher Mr. Marlen was teaching Social Studies,Mrs. Lindman was in Science Ms. Welch/Mrs. Graham was doing Lang. skills and Mr. Campbell was P.E. That was 1986/87 my 7th grade year. Run D.M.C./the Beastie Boys/L.L.Cool J . Were on the air. Along with the disco buisquit stuff (diamond girl and all that Stuff). And the Nintendo Entertainment System was big. Even in this short amount of time times sure have changed. Music sure has. It used to be about having a good time and funny little subjects, Like "Salley that girl" , "You be illin'", "Paul Revere"and "Fat girl". Then a year later came groups like N.W.A/Public Enemy/, Everything started to glorify the streets. And a lot of my generation was seriously affected. We took a sharp turn SOUTH. Gang violence really turn for the worst then. Even those who weren't in gangs had to be ready to stand his or her ground. It's sad when people want to change the times, and times just aren't ready. But even worse when time changes happen and people just aren't ready to change. A lot of my generation left a trail of abandoned children, being raised by state welfare and living in barrios and projects, as most of us were. Like a never ending train with no destination. I've seen friends shoot friends, Others turned to drugs like cocaine, p.c.p, speed, heroin and acid. And even some, who unfortunately got so involved in their "streetwise"activities that they've been killed or sentenced to life in prison. All were of my generation . We were all innocent in malice at one time together. Sharing good times at Slauson. Back when Mr. Hertz was Principle. Then Mr. Davis. Man!, we thought we had problems then. We had a lot of good times then, from morning to evening as we'd cross to street to the park and lounge at the "teen center" And on the way home we'd stop by La Tolteca and get some chips and salsa or get a special plate at Carmens. Times sure have changed since 1986/87. I've since moved to the Inland Empire. Been blessed with 3 beautiful children (2 boys and a girl) There's a lot more to my story in my home town Azusa but I really don't wanna bore those who aren't interested. But I'd like to my respects to my eighth grade teachers as well .Ms. Burdette, Mr. Reiner, Mr. Elwood, Mr. Garcia and Mr. Campbell. As much as I was a screw up, I'd like you guys to know that you guys really made an impact on my life. God Bless!
